Open the official incident record ↗I can smell or see smoke — what should I do?
Move indoors if smoke is increasing, reduce exertion, close windows and doors when practical, and use filtered indoor air if available. Check official local instructions immediately if you see a nearby plume, flames, ash, or emergency activity.
Do not use the AQI alone to rule out a nearby fire. A monitor may not yet reflect smoke you can see or smell.
Check the official authority ↗CAL FIRE supplies official incident information. AirNow supplies AQI observations. Fire proximity and AQI are independent signals; this page does not claim a specific fire is causing local smoke without supporting evidence.
